The Long-Term Development Guidelines (LTD) is a comprehensive framework formulated by the All Japan Judo Federation (AJJF) to support the growth and development of individuals at every stage of life — from early childhood, when they begin judo, to their senior years. This comprehensive framework outlines the long-term strategy for promoting judo as a lifelong pursuit.
The guidelines were created in response to key challenges facing judo in Japan, such as declining participation and a shrinking athlete population. The LTD aims to do more than just improve technical skills in judo. It seeks to promote physical and mental well-being, foster social skills, and enable individuals to maintain an active and healthy lifestyle throughout their lives through the practice of judo.
Furthermore, the LTD aims to encourage individuals to apply the skills, values, and principles learned through judo to both their personal lives and the broader society, ultimately fostering personal growth and contributing to the community.
The English version of the Long-Term Development Guidelines has been made publicly available to stimulate global conversation on the promotion of judo. While this document serves as the official long-term development policy of the AJJF, we welcome critical perspectives from people around the world. We believe that such diverse viewpoints will contribute to the continued evolution and development of judo worldwide.
